Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Prevention, Mitigation, and Response Program

Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Prevention, Mitigation, and Response Program
Gender-Based Violence (GBV) remains a critical issue in Dzaleka Refugee Camp, where many women and girls face domestic violence, sexual exploitation, forced marriages, and other forms of abuse. SOFERES’ GBV Prevention, Mitigation, and Response Program is dedicated to protecting, empowering, and advocating for the rights of refugee women and girls. Through community awareness, survivor support services, and policy advocacy, we strive to create a safer and more just society for all.
Key Program Areas:
- GBV Prevention & Community Awareness – We conduct community dialogues, awareness campaigns, radio broadcast, door to door visits, media campaigns and theatre performances to challenge harmful gender norms, educate the public about GBV, and promote gender equality.
- Survivor Support & Case Management – We provide safe spaces, emergency assistance and we connect survivors to medical, legal, psychosocial, and protection services ensuring they receive the care and protection they need.
- Capacity Building & Training – We train community leaders, youth, men, and local authorities on GBV prevention, response, and survivor-centered approaches, fostering a collective responsibility in ending violence against women and girls.
- Women’s Rights Advocacy & Policy Engagement – SOFERES works to strengthen local and national policies on GBV, advocating for better legal protections, access to justice, and gender-sensitive services for refugee women and girls.
- Men and Boys’ Engagement – We actively involve men and boys as allies in the fight against GBV, promoting positive masculinity, respect for women’s rights, and non-violent conflict resolution.
- Community Structures – We Establish and support community-led GBV committees to monitor and address risks at the grassroots level.
- Livelihood Support – SOFERES Enhances economic resilience by promoting income-generating activities that reduce dependency and empower survivors financially.
